Whirlpool Moving Products to Smart Grid

While some analysts argue whether or not Smart Grid is the way of the future, almost all agree that tracking how much energy your electronics consume is necessary and vital to greening up our lifestyles. That’s why major corporations like Whirlpool are getting ready to make the move to Smart Grid compatible appliances.

Near the beginning of May Whirlpool announced that all its electronically controlled appliances will be Smart Grid compatible by 2015. That’s a big leap of faith on Whirlpool’s part in this relatively new technology. But it comes on the heels of President Obama’s $4.5 billion he's dedicated to Smart Grid projects – including those that aim to get a Smart Grid in every home.

Smart Grid technology is not the end-all green solution for appliances and homes, but a step in the right direction. After monitoring energy usage, the next step will be to control it appropriately, making energy efficient appliances and gadgets even more energy efficient.
